Lobbyists are Good at Something

without comments

It turns out that corporations that pay lobbyists save money on their taxes…  Overtly, I don’t think that lobbyists are inherently evil, though where the system breaks down is that they generate greater savings, incentives for some groups over others.

I am a firm believer in a fair and equitable system, where we are all equal in the eyes of the law and the IRS!

An Average Celebration

without comments

On the average, Monday, April 13th will be Tax Freedom Day in the United States, according to the Tax Foundation. That’s the day when the average resident has made enough money within the calendar year to satisfy that year’s local-state-federal combined tax burden.

Those of you in Alaska have been free since March 23. Those of you in Connecticut have until April 30th.

(pardon me while I gather up enough breath to whisper “freedom,” Braveheart-style.)

From EconoBlog:

But being libertarian does not mean you have to have a cold heart. You can be a bleeding heart, but you show it by what you do, not what you advocate forcing other people to do.

Racking Up Debt for Our Kids

without comments

If it’s not right for parents to buy yachts and convertibles with their kids’ college funds, why is it okay for Congress to do the exact same thing (on a much larger scale)?

Media Malpractice

without comments

This piece from the Foundation for Economic Education clearly shows how the fourth estate is falling down on the job, and can’t seem to report anything involving economics with any real context.

What amazing magical powers our benevolent government has! It stimulates when it spends, unlike what happens when the rest of us spend. I suppose the difference is that when you and I spend, the money comes from somewhere.

Expect Many More Such Attacks

with one comment

Somali pirates have hijacked an American Flag container ship and now it is up to President Obama to respond.  Unfortunately, my prediction is that this will be the first of many if Obama doesn’t respond correctly.

Many individuals and countries are activily looking to harm this country and our fellow citizens.  As the old saying goes “Walk softly and carry a big stick” is now more true than ever.

Recent provocations have come from Iran, North Korea, Russia, China and even pipsqueak Venezuala.  They will grow more brazen with time.

Please, President Obama, don’t respond with more “talks.”  Your job is to protect US citizens and this country. I wish you well in your job!
