I’ve read these ’stats’ before but find them like most ’stats’ rather open to interpretation. For instance, how large was the sampling? Who was listed as ‘conservatives’? (Bill Gates ranks himself that way and gives BILLIONS does that not skew the result if he’s taken into account along with say Steve Forbes etc. etc.?)Honestly how was this compiled? By the census? That would make sense only who then is a ‘Liberal’? I am very liberal on a lot of causes but almost never mark myself that way as I still consider my overall standing a ‘moderate’. It’s really sad what the right has been allowed to do with a very worthy old name with ’studies’ such as this. Not one major advance in this country in its long life came from any others than the LIBERALS yet they continue to be browbeaten.

I found one other quibble with this article. The author like the vast majority of pundits assumes that Dems are ‘Liberals’ while Repubs are ‘conservatives’. I really hate this black and white approach which continues to divide. During the late 70s and 80s I was registered with and voted the straight Republican ticket because at the time I was a Fiscal conservative. During the same period I was anti-war, pro-choice, pro-gun control, and pretty much anti-death penalty along with being pro Universal Care. Was I a conservative? Today I take a more measured view of war, remain pro-choice, frown on most gun control, support the death penalty with reservations and remain for Universal Care and vote straight Dem. Am I a Liberal?
